Vertical or Horizontal Blinds?

Horizontal and vertical blinds are typically the two most common types of blinds used in homes and offices, the former being the more popular of the two. Unlike horizontal blinds which are often found on small or medium size windows, vertical blinds are comprised of larger slats often mounted to a track and they are opened via a pulley system or wand. Sliding glass doors and/or large windows are often covered with vertical blinds.

There are some similarities in vertical and horizontal blinds, and the first of these involves light protection. Regardless of their orientation, both types are highly effective in blocking light to the point of being blackout. Hence, they’re frequently used for home theaters, bedrooms, or a nursery. Both types are typically made using similar materials such as faux wood, which eases the installation process.

Besides their use on wide windows and sliding glass doors, vertical blinds are easy to clean up and do not accumulate as much dust as horizontal blinds. Vertical blinds also do a better job of blocking additional light due to the larger slats.

Horizontal blinds, on the other hand, deliver better privacy and they’re much better suited for narrow or tall windows. Their durability is exceptional and you won’t need to worry about them touching the floor and collecting dirt.
